He’s got the whole world in His hands…

Last month, I conducted an author’s visit for grades K-3 at an amazing school called Flushing Christian School in Queens, NY. It was an early afternoon, and the children were full of life and energy. They quietly walked into the library, staring at the large cutout board of the main book character Glory. They looked with anticipation, wondering who I was and what I was going to say.

Flushing Christian School Grades K-3 at Glory's Treasures author’s visit.

As the head of school introduced me, my heart overflowed with gratitude to the Lord for the opportunity to read and share with the children. As I read the book and displayed the illustrations, the children listened and intently watched the pictures on the screen.

A particular illustration caught the attention of a 3rd grader. I could see her raise her hand with a perplexed look on her face. Once I called on her, she pointed towards the illustration and said, “Those hands are so big! It looks weird. Why are they so big?”

I chuckled and prayed in my heart, saying, “Lord, please give me the right words to say.” Immediately, the Lord reminded me of a song I used to sing growing up in Sunday school entitled “He’s got the whole world in His hands”.

He’s got the whole world in His hands;

He’s got the whole wide world in His hands;

He’s got the whole world in His hands;

He’s got the whole world in His hands."

I looked at the illustration and responded to the young girl that when she sees this picture, she can think of this song. I sang it and to my amazement, every child and even some teachers joined in the chorus! It was one of the best highlights during my author’s visit. As I reflect on this song, I want to remind you, especially in these uncertain times, that the Lord has us all in His hands. His sovereignty and wisdom can be trusted to take us through the most difficult times. The bible reminds us of this it reads:

The earth is the Lord’s, and everything in it, the world, and all who live in it; Psalm 24:1

Because the earth is the Lord’s, and everything in it, we can be confident and trust Christ with every detail of our lives. I’m so grateful that God, the creator of heaven and earth, has the entire world in His hands!
